Why Pedigree Aberdeen Angus Cattle?
We looked at many breeds before we chose to farm pedigree Aberdeen Angus cattle.
The reasons are simple and have proved to be factually correct in all our dealings so far
- Aberdeen Angus are usually excellent mothers that calve easily
- Aberdeen Angus are good natured and civilised with each other ( and ourselves )
- Aberdeen Angus beef is internationally recognised as the best beef you can buy
This reputation has been won because:
When allowed to mature naturally, growing with their mothers and then feeding predominantly on grass, pedigree Aberdeen Angus cattle provide beef with an excellent balance of lean meat, minimal fat with a small proportion of bone.
Whereas lean beef is promoted as preferable, it is the combination of fine fat marbling within pedigree Aberdeen Angus beef that ensures tenderness and flavour. Recent studies have shown that pedigree Aberdeen Angus cattle predominantly fed upon grass provide beef that is rich with natural Omega 3 and Omega 6, which are essential for good cardiovascular health.

The peripheral fat together with the marbling found in pedigree Aberdeen Angus beef greatly enhances the suitability of the carcase for chilled hanging over 3 or 4 weeks. This hanging period allows enzymes to tenderize the meat and heightens the flavours. Other breeds of cattle that lack this quality of fat and marbling cannot be hung for similar periods as the meat deteriorates, meaning that the beef must be sold far earlier, thus losing tenderness and flavour.
A word of caution
The Aberdeen Angus Cattle Society has granted beef animals that only have an Aberdeen Angus father regardless of the breed or quality of the mother the status of Certified Aberdeen Angus Beef. The beef that is available in most supermarkets and many direct sale web sites as Aberdeen Angus beef will at most be only 50% Aberdeen Angus and 50% other breeds. This will hugely affect the eating quality of the meat and the quality and location of fat within the carcase.
We have asked the Society to explain why they cannot promote 100% pedigree Aberdeen Angus beef as supplied by Park House Farm, and they advised that there is simply not enough pedigree beef to meet the demand. Hence for commercial reasons they have created a 50% product that can be produced by a much larger number of farmers to meet the generated demand for approved Aberdeen Angus beef. Our beef is 100% Aberdeen Angus beef and hence far better quality than the widely promoted Certified Aberdeen Angus Beef.
Best quality Aberdeen Angus beef can only be supplied from 100% Pedigree Aberdeen Angus herds
